Gareth Fryer became an important modern breeder within the long-established Fryer's Roses tradition in England. Fryer's nursery traces its commercial rose-growing history to Arthur Fryer in 1912, but Gareth developed a serious breeding program that produced roses recognized well beyond Britain. The company has accumulated international awards, including British Rose of the Year honors and recognition in European, American, and New Zealand trials.
Gareth Fryer's own work includes roses such as Sweet Dream®, Warm Wishes™, Day Breaker™, and numerous Floribundas, Hybrid Teas, and compact garden varieties. Sweet Dream® received British Rose of the Year recognition and an RHS Award of Garden Merit, while Day Breaker™ earned the 2004 All-America Rose Selections award in the United States. His breeding demonstrates the international reach that a comparatively small British breeding house can achieve through roses combining distinctive color, fragrance, and reliable garden performance.
