François Dorieux II

François Dorieux II continued a French family rose-growing tradition established by his grandfather in the twentieth century. Working from the family's nursery in Montagny, France, Dorieux became particularly associated with roses combining strong fragrance and unusual color, creating varieties that stood apart from more conventional red, pink, and yellow Hybrid Teas.

Among his notable roses are Violette Parfumée, also known in some markets as Melody Parfumée, along with Annapurna, Loulou de Cacharel, Vendée Globe, and other introductions. Violette Parfumée became an especially strong example of Dorieux's style, pairing lavender-violet coloring with powerful fragrance and earning recognition at multiple international trials. His work helped maintain the tradition of smaller family breeders contributing genuinely distinctive roses alongside the industry's much larger breeding houses.
