Christian Bédard represents a newer generation of major American rose breeders. Raised in Québec City in a family connected to plant breeding, he joined Weeks Roses in 2000 and worked alongside Tom Carruth before eventually assuming leadership responsibilities within the Weeks breeding program. His roses have earned recognition in American and international trials for qualities including flower beauty, fragrance, garden performance, and resilience.
Bédard has created dozens of varieties across multiple rose classes. His introductions include roses such as Dick Clark, Sugar Moon, Rosie the Riveter™, Neil Diamond, and newer landscape roses, while his seedlings continue to appear in international trials. His work reflects the modern Weeks philosophy of combining distinctive colors and fragrances with plants capable of performing well for everyday gardeners rather than simply producing exhibition-quality flowers.
